“Oh God above, if heaven has a taste it must be an egg with butter and salt.” ~Frank McCourt
I had a revelation.
Throughout my years of writing Ciao Chow Bambina, I’d always thought that I would complete my food blogging journey with a final post featuring an egg. A crispy-fried-runny-yolked-purely-delicious egg. A perfectly salted crackly egg served alongside Italian toast cloaked in enough butter to make even Julia Child proud. Yep, toast with a skyscraper of butter – a nod to my mama who wielded a butter knife better than anyone.
I’m pretty certain I told my kids that when they see a crispy fried egg come across their email – that would be it. That would be my final post.
‘Twas not to be.
My ‘final’ post was not a recipe for eggs, but a sweet farewell in Soul Snacks.
Meaningful? Yes.
Eggs? No.
What is it about the egg? Hands down, it’s the dish my kids request most often. I mean – sauce and meatballs, soup, roasted chicken, mashed potatoes, anything Thanksgiving inspired – all popular – they fill our royal foody court, but toast and fried eggs? They reign supreme as king & queen.
It was my plan to end our food journey in 2025 with a meal that brings only comfort (in our house), intending to bring that same comfort to you, and I guess, me, as I said goodbye. This is funny, isn’t it? My initial plan to celebrate goodbye with eggs….has now become hello – with eggs. The world has a sense of humor.
Over these past many months since retiring the blog, I’ve missed it, I’ve missed you.
So I’ve decided to throw my ol’ CCB hat back on, and spend some time snacking. Soul snacking that is. I won’t be sharing newly created recipes, but I will invite you into this cozy little space to share in things that speak to my soul – and hopefully yours, too. We’ll chew on a little bit of this, and a little bit of that…
Who doesn’t love to be invited over for snacks? I know I do!
Coffee’s on, my friends – please join me!
