Stozzapreti with Sweet Peas and Parmesan tastes all the better wrapped in thick and hearty pasta sauce!
With all the comings and goings at the end of summer, I’m always on the lookout for the thing… The thing that helps to create a dinner that’s both delicious and quick to assemble.
Here it is!
Stozzapreti with Sweet Peas and Parmesan tastes all the better wrapped in Ragú!
Alongside Nick’s delicious request for meals ‘he had to have’ before heading back to start his senior year of college (WHATTTTT????!!!!), there are some days where the idea of making a fabulous homey meal and getting it to the table quickly is the top priority.
Because some days are just meant for other things…
Like mall dates and school shopping and our annual meal of authentic Mexican food. Things like moving furniture, hanging posters and buying stock in Swiffer Dusters and Pine-Sol. Our boy lives in a house off campus with four of his good buddies. It’s a house on “the hill” on a street peppered with college students. An older home which I can imagine in its heyday was absolutely stunning. And now it’s um, stunning in new ways… posters, all the very. large. posters… athletic equipment…sneakers…and, oh, other items college kids tend to keep on hand…like….computers and books. What’d you think I was going to say? (wink)
We spent the better part of last week getting Nick set up for his final year. And although we’ve been moving kids in and out of college dorms and apartments for the last eight years, you’d think we’d be used to it. You’d think that the unfortunate truth – time is fleeting – might actually help ease the sting of their moves, knowing that we’ll see them soon, or in Nick’s case, that he is just a 20 minute drive from home and that Sunday dinners together are a real possibility……but it still hurts.
That little lump in my throat, the one that shows up this time of year every year for the past eight, and I, have become really good friends. She’s like, “I’m baaaack!”. And I’m like, “Coffee’s on…get comfortable…I know you’ll be sticking around for a few days.”.
So, where was I? Ahhh – yes – sauce.
I mean, what’s more comforting than a beautifully designed pasta smothered in a rich and hearty tomato sauce that is dotted with baby sweet peas and sprinkled with Parmesan?
Not much.
This is a meal that’s great when you’re in a hurry, or, when you’re not in a hurry but could use a little comfort. Buon Appetito!!

Awe, you’re a good mom and make me realize how I miss mine, although I’m WAY past the 20 year mark! Nick is lucky.
As for this two things: I have never heard of Stozzapreti, so thank you, and peas seem an interesting addition. One I’d gladly try if this were my dinner!
Annie says
Awh! Thank you, friend… Those are very kind words! Time goes too quickly, doesn’t it? And how is it that 20 seems forever ago AND like yesterday? I’d love for you to try pasta with peas and let me know what you think. We’ve been eating it forever! Have a great day, Kevin! 🙂
Pamela @ Brooklyn Farm Girl says
Love this simple quick meal! Next time I’m adding peas to my pasta!
Annie says
Do it! I’ve been eating pasta with peas forever and love it!! Thanks, friend!

The house I moved into in my college years was not stunning, even in its heyday. But I loved it and learned how to fend for myself a little more there. I know you must be in your emotional mama state with all of this, but at least your son will learn to keep house. Maybe? 🙂
This pasta can’t hurt when it comes to luring him back home. I’d go a long way to get some of this!
Annie says
Nick has definitely learned a lot by moving out of the dorms and into a house! It’s been a great learning and eye opening experience for him! Thanks, friend! 🙂

College….and senior year in college! Wow!!! So exciting for him. This pasta is a great send off to college. It will remind him of all the great food his mom makes when he’s eating in the cafeteria 🙂 I still love going home to my mom’s home cooked meals. This pasta looks like a winner!
Annie says
It’s so true – nothing like home cooked food – especially where college cafeteria meals are involved! Thanks, Kathy! Have a great weekend, my friend! I know you’re getting ready to begin your year! 🙂

So true.. even after all these years of meal prep, I’m still looking for an easier, tastier, and more efficient way to do things. That’s why I always love coming here to check out new, simple meal ideas. 🙂 (That, and to check out the AMAZING photography!)
Woah on Nick being in his senior year of college!! It’s almost time for the real world… there, he will be needing this recipe in hand, as well as the awesome inspiration and support he gets from his wonderful mama. <3 Allow me hug away that lump in your throat and congratulate you for raising a great kiddo. 🙂 Begone, lump! 😉 Pinning and sharing, Annie. xoxo
Annie says
Ahhh! You did it – lump is gone! It’s crazy how quickly time goes…I know that statement is overused, probably, but man – it can give us a break now! This was an easy dinner while we were focusing on all the other ‘college’ stuff! Ragú doesn’t disappoint especially when we’re in a hurry! Thank you for stopping by and banishing the lump, my friend! xoxo

Well yay for Nick and his last year of college!! I know it must be painful for you, how they grow up SO fast, but I also know how incredibly proud of all your children you must be! You’ve put into words exactly what I’ve been feeling, Annie. I’m glad your son is close by, and Sunday dinners together can give you something to look forward to each week. The pasta looks delicious, by the way! xo

How can anything stir feelings that are so contrary to each other at the same exact time? This, we’ll call, a sweet-bitter time… Thanks for stopping by, my friend. I hope all went well with your daughter’s move. xo

My sons also lived with 3 friends during the college years. Five boys in one house … I’m so glad it wasn’t mine. haha I once just had to clean it on a visit. After our visit later in the night the roommates came home and stopped at the front door and exclaimed, “Man, it smells good in here!” Though I’m sure the smell of a home cooked meal would have thrilled them I think they knew that also was a work of love.
I love your musings on life and food!
Annie says
So you know the deal! How fun is it to see them in their habitat! I bet the roommates were very appreciative of your help on the cleaning front! Thank you so much, my friend! 🙂
Jen | Baked by an Introvert says
I love a delicious meal that is easy! And I can ever say no to pasta, so this is a double win in my book!
Annie says
Right? Pasta is where it’s at! Even better if we throw one of your divine desserts into the mix! 🙂
Medha @ Whisk & Shout says
This was such a lovely post to read- as the kid going off to college, I’ve always kind of wondered how my mom felt about it. Because on the outside she’s super excited for me and supportive, but I know we miss each other. This pasta is total comfort food= love it!
Annie says
Thank you, Medha…I’m so glad this post resonated with you. It’s so true – we are super excited for our kids, no doubt, but there’s that moment when the energy in the house shifts…and it feels a little sad. And like you said – we miss each other. But then it’s nothing but joy when we anticipate the next time we can be together! Good luck to you as you begin your second year, my dear! 🙂
Marisa Franca @ All Our Way says
It is so hard, I know, we’ve done it three times. Even when we go on vacation and will be gone a while, I get blue. Family dinners are so special. I bet you go all out and have all of his favorites. That’s what mamma’s do 🙂 Abbracci!
Annie says
Our tradition has always been to make the kids’ favorite meals every night for about a week before they leave. It’s anything from grilled cheese to chicken satay and everything in between…we ended with meatball subs and antipasto salad this time… But I must say – these Ragú Homestyle Sauces hit the spot on busy days! Thanks, my friend! 🙂
Stacey @ The Sugar Coated Cttage says
This looks so warm and comforting, just what you need as you say goodbye to your boy! Hopefully he’ll make home this Sunday for dinner ?. Super delicious and I love the addition of sweet peas. Take care!
Annie says
It’s a nice meal when you are short on time but big on flavor and comfort! Thanks, friend!
Megan - The Emotional Baker says

Dawn @ Girl Heart Food says
That’s not too far…20 minutes away 🙂 Guess, you have to look on the bright side of things, right 😉 ? I would imagine that he would have no problem coming back home anyway, especially if he had a big bowl of this, Annie! Looks delicious!!
Annie says
Ohhh, I know! I tell myself that 20 minutes is not too far and that we’re very lucky! I just miss their faces when they go! hahah! But luckily, he likes my food – so, we have that going for us! Every once in a while he’ll have a craving for something and it all works out! 🙂 Thank you, friend! xo
