INGREDIENTS FOR TODAY’S CROSTATA:
- Flour
- Salted butter
- Ice water
- Orange marmalade
- Egg
- Sugar
- Sliced almonds
And the really nice thing about this crostata?
It can handle almost any jam you throw its way!
Don’t have marmalade in the cupboard? Fig or apricot will do just fine!

COOK’S NOTES:
- Homemade jams are wonderful for crostata, but store-bought jams work just as well.
- Jams are common, but fresh fruit makes for a superb filling too.
- Using very few ingredients this crust comes together quickly, but in a pinch, store-bought pie dough works well.

Buon Appetito!

Description
Rustic Orange Marmalade & Almond Crostata, so simple and delicious, a perfect dessert for those of us who want homemade but don’t want fuss.
Ingredients
2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup salted butter, chilled and cut into small cubes
1/2 cup plus 2 Tbsp. ice water
9 – 10 ounces orange marmalade
1 egg whisked, for brushing the crust
1/4 cup sugar, for sprinkling the crust
1 cup sliced almonds for decorating
Instructions
In a large bowl place the flour, butter and water.
Mix with your hands until everything is combined and the dough becomes a solid mass.
Turn the dough onto a well-floured surface and form into a disk.
Wrap the dough with plastic and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
Preheat oven to 400 F.
Cut a piece of parchment the size of a baking sheet.
Remove the dough and dust the surface of the parchment lightly with flour. Roll out the dough on the parchment to about a 12-inch circle. Don’t worry if it’s not perfectly round.
Spread the center with store bought or homemade marmalade.
Gently fold up the sides, pleating as you go.
Brush egg wash around the edges and sprinkle with sugar. You can add the almonds now or upon removal from the oven.
Bake for about 30 minutes or until the edges are golden.
Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes.
Slice and serve.

i made this using only about 1/3c of water, which was plenty enough moisture to bring the dough together. since i put the almonds on the crust before baking, i baked it in the lower part of my oven to avoid burning the almonds – worked perfectly! lastly i drizzled dark chocolate over the top (jackson pollock style) once the crostata had cooled for a bit. it was delicious!
i’m planning to make this again using my meyer lemon marmalade and pistachios. thank you for a wonderful recipe that has lots of room to riff on.
Wow I’m so surprised by how little ingredients are needed to create something so delicious! I love a good simple recipe 😀 It looks as if it has a lovely texture, with the almonds xo
Thank you so much!!

I haven’t had marmalade in a long time! I’ll need to pick up a jar on my next grocery run so I can give this crostata recipe a go. A slice with my morning coffee would be heavenly!
We always try to keep a jar in the cupboard…never know when we’ll need this crostata!! 😉 Thanks, Leanne!!

I can’t believe how simple it is to make this gorgeous crostata! Perfect after dinner treat or weekend breakfast. We discovered this marmalade that’s made with Yuzu (Japanese citrus) that I could eat by the spoonful – so excited to try this recipe with it!!

Annie! This sounds and looks amazing. I don’t normally crave sweets first thing in the morning but the crostata has me dreaming of a nice wedge along with my espresso. I’m pinning the recipe. I’ll search the pantry to see what kind of marmalade is there. Hope you and your family are safe and well. Un abbraccio forte!
Crostata and espresso…match made in heaven! Thank you, friend!
