Soul Snacks: Simple Pleasures

“There is / nothing left /

to worry about / the sun and her flowers are here.”

~Rupi Kaur

SUMMER’S SIMPLE PLEASURES…

perfectly poised camera-ready happy-faced flowers

slow walks on a hot day through a labyrinth of aisles in a tiny village bookstore

hot pepper microbrew that reminds me of my gram

pink skies making way for a creamsicle-colored sunrise

juicy heirloom tomatoes on crusty Italian bread slathered in good mayo a pinch of salt and a generous grind of cracked black pepper

juicy heirloom tomato sandwich made by someone else

good company, cold beer, perfect sunset, musical stylings of the Zac Brown Band

young children enjoying hot off the smoker mozzarella-stuffed meatballs

turquoise sneakers that go. the. distance

an array of shoes piled at the front door hinting at a houseful

latenight thunder boomers

tuesday night date night

juicy fruity sweet red wine

scrambled eggs, burnt toast, whipped butter, black coffee

pontoon rides, packed coolers, ham sandwiches, family-time

homemade birthday cake

stacks of books and nowhere to be

bike rides and long talks with my favorite fella

********

So pleasing to let sweet memories of summer float to the top of my brain like a delicious swirl of cream rising to the top of hot coffee…

Do you have a favorite summer memory that you’d like to share? I’d love to hear it…

Have a beautiful weekend, my friends!

Annie

XO

Lovely. Sunflower is our state flower, fields of them overflowing the side of the highways. Just beautiful post. Thanks for sharing it.

I love those sunflowers. My Dad always grew sunflowers in his garden, and they were often taller than him! This picture brings back those summer memories, and memories of basking in the sunshine on their porch!

Your soul snacks are exactly that, little snacks to feed the soul. I felt related to many of them, especially the “pink skies making way for a creamsicle-colored sunrise”. Dusk and sunset, my favorite times of the day…

I am with you – there is nothing like the morning and night time sky, especially during the summer months!

Love your Summer memories 🙂 I spent some time in your neck of the woods last week. We drove to Syracuse from Buffalo and hopped on the train into NYC and back. Such a pretty area 🙂 Didn’t see that field of sunflowers though, sadly.

Awh – too bad there wasn’t time for us to meet! I watched your NYC story – I loved it all! Isn’t Eataly the best?!! That sunflower field is on the west side of town. Thanks for stopping by, my friend! 🙂

Jigsaw puzzles during summer storms! And dunking skorpe in hot tea while my sister and I watch Dumbo’s Circus and wait to leave for swim lessons :). Summer memories are the best; thank you for letting me relive them! Have a great weekend, Annie!

Such a beautiful shot! My fave summer memory is hubby and my annual trip to Cape Spear with Riley for a hike and picnic. I always look forward to it and it always makes my heart happy to see how content Riley is to be outside with us. Hope you have a wonderful weekend, lovely! XOXO
