Sloppy Joe Sliders – Italian Style…or better yet…Sloppy Giuseppes!
My girls are so cute. On more than one occasion, after having had an exceptional meal out, they’ll report back to me what they ate with the hope that together we can duplicate their gastronomic experience as closely as possible.
These Sloppy Giuseppes come compliments of Luc. Though the sandwich she had was prepared with slivered steak – our version should come very close in flavor to the one that she described.
I thought it would be fun to make sliders – with the big game this weekend and all. Hut.
I can imagine making a double or triple batch – keeping it warm on the stove, inviting folks to help themselves to a slider roll or two or more, a sprinkle of shredded mozzarella, a pinch of red pepper flakes and a ladle of Sloppy Giuseppe.
With all the hype and happenings of game day – we want tasty food that’s simple to make. Am I right? Well – this recipe delivers on both counts. Like a traditional Sloppy Joe, I used ground beef (instead of steak – though you could!), then added sauteed onions, sauteed roasted red peppers, marinara sauce, ketchup, red pepper flakes and mozzarella. Oh yeahhhhh – melty, sweet, tomatoey, tangy, cheesy, spicy tender beef on puffy, soft slider rolls…
Here’s the part where you kiss your fingertips and repeat after me, “Mama Mia!”.
How does one begin to describe the pleasure of seeing Trevi Fountain for the first time? Mona Lisa’s smile? The Eiffel Tower in twinkle lights?
One doesn’t.
One basks in the glow of the moment and knows that it’s a special one – much like the moment you will undoubtedly have when you take your first bite of this slider.
I am left with only one thing to say…
Buon Appetito, my friends!

I love this spin on a good old fashioned sloppy Joe! Of course the cheese is just the cherry on top.
You got that right! The cheese is the cherry on the top! Thanks, Jolena!
Hi Annie, I love your Italian spin on Sloppy Joes. It’s cold here in Buffalo, but you’re motivating me to head to the grocery store to get what I need to make these =) I was feeling lazy on the cooking front, was going to eat leftovers, but now I want these. (my husband is thanking you right now, haha!) The only thing I was wondering if I could leave out the ketchup? Would that make a huge difference in your opinion? I know, I’m a total weirdo, I get all strange about condiments. Could I just add extra marinara sauce?
yesyesyes! You could totally keep the ketchup out and replace it with the sauce! I think that would be quite delicious, too! You just might miss that little bit of tang from the ketchup. Have fun!!
I have never had sloppy joes before and I have no idea why. It looks like my ideal of total comfort food.
Ope – you need to do something about that, Dannii!! Total comfort!
hahahaha Sloppy Giuseppes! Love this idea. I need to try these soon. Pinned!
Thank you!! Enjoy, Oriana!!
So delicious Annie! Just perfect! Wish I had some right now 🙂
