Cantaloupe Orange Granita is the best most refreshing answer to the test that many of us are facing these days……..
The heat!
Are your lawns crunchy? Is your hair frizzy? Do people congregate around your open freezer door?
Well, I say no more.
And although this granita won’t cure crispy grass and fuzzy heads, it will help you to look at them with more loving eyes.
I got your back, my friends.
Sometimes we need more than just chilled fruit to munch on (though that is pleasant in its own right). We need more than a tall glass of freshly squeezed pulp-y orange juice (though most days that’s a luxury). Nope, sometimes we just need more.
We need ice.
Flavored ice.
Ice chips.
Shaved ice.
Italian ice.
Slushied fruity ice.
Granita.
Cantaloupe Orange Granita.
Whatever you want to call it…just don’t call me late to the party when it’s being served!
It doesn’t get simpler than my Cantaloupe Orange Granita.
Pack your blender with cubed cantaloupe, sugar, orange juice and water. Blend until the cantaloupe is pulverized and you have what appears to be cantaloupe juice. Pour the liquid in a 13×9 baking dish. Place in the freezer (yes, that same freezer that hopefully hasn’t lost all its cool due to the family gatherings happening there). Check on the mixture every hour or so for the first couple hours. And by check, I mean, scrape the dickens out of it with your favorite scraping utensil – a fork. After a good 4 hours or so, your treat should be ready.
I made mine in the evening and let it set overnight. This way, I woke to a gorgeous and refreshing breakfast that started my day on the perfect note.
Speaking of perfect notes…you might want to check out my Black Grape & Ginger Granita while you’re here…
Melon and citrus are a match made in heaven – add a freezer – and you’ve got yourself an answer to your frizzy haired prayers.

I recently made muskmelon sorbet and it was so good on warm days. This cantaloupe granita is something I should try next.
