“What good is the warmth of summer, without the cold of winter to give it sweetness.”
~John Steinbeck
Yes! Many of us are about to experience the sweetest summer we’ve had in a very long time. Kind of appreciate winter, now, don’t you?
When it dawned on me that Old Man Winter was about to take his final bow, I was motivated to get one more wintertime recipe in.
And I was certain of one thing: it needed to be colorful.
I would love to tell you that I’m gazing out at billowy white clouds, baby blue skies and yellow daffodils but truth is we’re glaring at ashen skies and snowbanks the color of cinder. We’re dragging tiny black pebbles into the house with every step and still braving the cold in our puffy down-filled jackets.
But that’s okay…it’s just making summer that much sweeter.
But until I hear the birds chirping – I’m taking matters into my own hands with this Winter Sangria with Blackberry, Pink Grapefruit & Lime.
I love my sangria in the summer but this winter brew with its beautiful citrus, plump blackberries and stunning crimson color warms me up perfectly.
This dark and delicious sangria stocked with winter citrus and blackberry is just the drink we need to toast out winter and ring in spring!
Saluté!

Okay. This sounds like pure fun with a dose of vitamin c. Yes, a toast to old man winter for sure. You must have seen the same luscious blackberries I eyed in Wegmans the other day. Can’t wait to try this. It almost needs a whole event for itself. Cheers!
I sure did and I couldn’t resist! Thanks, Robin! Cheers, my friend!

It really is! We enjoyed a glass tonight and I forgot all about the 30 degree weather! Thanks, Stacey!
Sangria is one of my favorite adult beverages, always with seasonal fruit! This is a gorgeous drink, Annie! And a beautiful way to usher out winter! Hard to believe Spring is knocking on the door, but I am thrilled about it! I usually will use a red blend when making a red sangria. What sweet red wine do you recommend? Cheers to you my friend!
So good, so good! I used Bully Hill’s Growers Red which is a fruity blend of Native American grape varieties. Bully Hill Estate is a local vineyard out of the Finger Lakes wine region. Most of the wine we purchase is a local favorite. Cheers to you my friend!
This looks lovely, Annie. It’s only breakfast time – so I’m going to be thinking about this drink all day. Looking forward to trying it. Love the balance of sweetness with the red wine – looks like a soul warming drink. Great photos!
I love that…soul warming drink…’tis, indeed. Thanks, dear! 🙂

Is it wrong that I want this when it’s lunch time? This drink looks so inviting and makes me feel relaxed just looking at it! Thanks for reminding me how delicious fruit is in wine. You’ve inspired me to get some fruit and hit my hubby’s wine cellar!
It’s never wrong. hahah! Thanks, Andrea! I love the thought of your hubby’s wine cellar! Beautiful…
This sounds like the perfect drink to end winter with, Annie! Sangria is one of my favorites and I’m loving the fruits you added in here! Looks gorgeous, not to mention delicious, too!
It sure is…I’m looking out at rainy gray skies but this sangria will provide a much needed splash of color at our tailgate, tonight! Thanks, Gayle!
I love sangria. Usually it’s a summer-kind-of-drink. I sit by the pool and sip away the day. This sangria, on the other hand, makes me do a happy dance. Now, I can enjoy the deliciousness of sangria with citrus and blackberry. YUM! I can’t wait to try it. 🙂
Yep, it usually is for me, too – but I couldn’t resist the idea of sangria with a winter twist…Thanks, Erin!! 🙂
