Spaghetti with Arrabbiata Sauce

Ingredients

  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 large onion, finely sliced
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 2 tsp. crushed red pepper flakes
  • 2 (14 oz.) cans Italian plum tomatoes, chopped
  • salt
  • black pepper
  • 1 lb. pasta
  • 2 Tbsp. chopped flat leaf parsley or fresh basil, optional

Instructions

  1. Heat oil in a skillet.
  2. Add onion, garlic, and red pepper flakes and cook, over medium high heat, stirring frequently, until soft and golden, about 8 minutes.
  3. Add tomatoes and cook, stirring occasionally, until thickened, about 15 minutes.
  4. Add salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Meanwhile, cook pasta in a large pot.
  6. Add your choice of herbs, to the hot sauce.
  7. Toss pasta with the sauce and serve.
