Mexican Hot Chocolate

Ingredients

  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 Tbsp. light brown sugar
  • 4 1/2 ounces bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • 1/2 tsp. pure vanilla extract
  • 1/8 tsp. ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 heaping tsp. ground cayenne pepper

Instructions

  1. Place the milk and brown sugar in a medium saucepan and bring to a simmer.
  2. Remove from heat and whisk in chocolate, vanilla, cinnamon, and cayenne pepper.
  3. Allow to steep for 3 minutes.
  4. Reheat the mixture over low heat until it reaches a slow simmer.
  5. Pour into mugs.
  6. Serve.
