Naples Ombre Vodka Lime Gimlet

DSC_0326

I recently spent a little time at my sister’s down in Naples, Florida. Everyone from my family of origin was there.

It had been a really long time since spending time like this, just the five of us, together; what with nine kids between us and careers, college, carpools – you get the picture; however, everything came to a screeching halt when we got the call that my brother-in-law, Kevin, had suffered a brain aneurysm.

You know, when I first heard it, all I could think about was getting there…being there…just being there…not necessarily to say the right thing, or to do the right thing, but to be the right thing – which was, there. There, together, in the trenches. And we were together. Something I will forever be grateful for.

I am beyond elated to report that Kevin is doing well, he is home, recovering as quickly and miraculously as you might expect Iron Man to do – that’s right – you read it right – Iron Man…yeah, Iron Man is my brother-in-law – no big deal…

So…as the days moved on, and Kevin gained momentum in his recovery, it felt safe to let our guards down a little, and with that, we ventured into Connie’s backyard. The backyard that houses many, many fruit trees…so beautiful. And even though it was beyond their season, there were still a couple of oranges and limes available for the plucking, so we did!

And as a result, the Naples Ombre Vodka Lime Gimlet was born! Compliments of…you guessed it…Dad!

Naples Ombre Vodka Lime Gimlet

Ingredients

Fresh lime juice

Agave nectar

Chilled vodka

Wedge of lime

Directions

Squeeze the juice of 1/2 a lime into an elegant, simple, martini glass.

Pour 1 1/2  shots of vodka over lime juice.

Pour 1/2 shot of agave over vodka.

Float a wedge of lime in the drink & watch the magic happen.

The Agave settles to the bottom of the glass creating an Ombre-esque effect…very beautiful and just the right amount of sweet…delicious.

Dad did nice work…very nice work…and it was so wonderful to be able to toast Kevin with a drink that is as original as he is!

Here’s to you, Kev! We love ya!

Salute!

We all need to be prepared to commemorate our future occasions by selectively imbibing in the company of this unique aperitif, the Naples Ombré Vodka Lime Gimlet. It worked so well the first time, clearly a healthy family tradition has been born.

    Love you…Dad
