With the girls moved out, and Nick just a few short months away from college, Dom and I keep looking at each other and saying, “We can do this, right?” “Yeah, we can do this.” “We can do this.” “You can do this.” “Can I do this?” “We can do this.” We remind each other, thirty times a day, that we can do this. And then I remind myself of the trip we took to Italy just a few short months ago.
It had been many years since just the two of us had a vacation together. And even that, going to Italy, we were so excited, but still a little nervous about spending that much time together and keeping the conversation going without the kids around. Of course, the majority of our conversations were about the kids but we had the time of our lives!! I am happy to report that we survived the 10 days, just the two of us, and we left wanting more!
So….we can do this! Right? Um, right!
On one very special date we took a train to Florence from Rome. We traveled all day, in the pouring rain, to find our favorite little Florentine hot spot. We originally discovered Il Latini on a trip with my parents back in 2006. The restaurant is famous for its steak and boy does it deliver!
The thing I love about this place, beyond the lovely people who work there, is that your bounty begins before you even cross the threshold. You are not only regaled from inside Il Latini but you feast upon the beauty that envelops you from outside, from the moment you step off the train…from around the corner, and up the street, to just outside the door. You are satiated before even entering. Il Latini delights. It treats its guests to traditional fare as well as the gorgeous, historic ambiance that is Florence! With prosciutto hanging from the ceiling, wine flowing at every table, and a symphony of chatter from chair to chair which includes melodic languages from every corner of the world…the experience is both global and intimate all at the same time. You might walk in as a duo, but you will leave having made friends for life. There is no such thing as a table for two…unless you arrive as a large party, you are seated at a very cozy table, with two strangers, who also came in as a duo, but will leave as a quad…amico forever.
Please join us for this journey, even if only through pictures…

As I read your delightful story about your “Date with Dom,” my memory of your first trip to Italy with the kids and your parents immediately comes to mind and a smile is now on my face with inner laughter of your “1st date with Dom in 2006!” I believe it’s best I stop here and leave you with, it was definitely worth the wait for this lovely 10 day date in Italy for you and Dom!!!!
