Apple Pie

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup butter-flavored shortening
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/2 cup ice water
  • 78 apples, sliced
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tsp. cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp. nutmeg
  • 2 tsp. lemon juice
  • 2 Tbsp. flour

Instructions

  1. Combine flour, shortening, salt, and water in a large mixing bowl.
  2. Mix with your hands until all ingredients are well combined.
  3. Pat dough into a ball and wrap in plastic wrap.
  4. Place in refrigerator for the time it takes to make the filling. (30-60 min.)
  5. Preheat oven to 425 degrees.
  6. In a large bowl combine apples, sugar, brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice and flour.
  7. Remove dough from the refrigerator and cut in half.
  8. Roll out each half to use for the bottom and top crusts.
  9. Place first dough in pie plate.
  10. Fill with apple mixture.
  11. Place remaining dough on top.
  12. Crimp edges and poke holes in top to release steam.
  13. Decorate with remaining bits of dough. (Optional)
  14. Bake for 50-60 minutes.
  15. Remove when golden brown.
